As usual, The Dictator takes every advantage of the palace. Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha, campaigning for his continued premiership in the northeast “called for unity, saying people had to come together and embrace their Thai identities.” He said:
“There are good and bad people in every place, but we can’t divide into factions now because we all have the same color. This month everyone is yellow and united by the heart in being Thai,” Prayuth said, referring to the color of King Vajiralongkorn, who turns 66 on Saturday.
Of course, this twinning of military dictatorship and monarchy is nothing new, extending back to 1957.
