The Dictator, General Prayuth Chan-ocha, has repeatedly engaged in lies and nonsense. Most recently, he has attempted to create a bedrock lie about the military dictatorship.
A few days ago, The Dictator commented on his 2014 coup, and an op-ed in the Bangkok Post reminds us of this.
In short, General Prayuth has dissembled: there was no coup! On Sunday, The Dictator created a new history:
I did not topple the [then] prime minister…. There was no PM at that time. There was no one with administrative power. The country had fallen. That was why I came in.
We do not believe for one moment that Prayuth believes this nonsensical claim. It bears no relationship with the statements Prayuth himself made on 22 May 2014.
That said, many anti-democrats are likely to consume and repeat this lie.
Such lies are critical to the military junta’s repression and its plans to stay in control of Thailand into the future.
